Oh Poetry Month

Day 29 NaPoWriMo (National Poetry Writing Month

Oh poetry month …

I have enjoyed you

despised you

thrilled at you and now,

am tired of you.

This blog cries out for complete sentences that stretch across the page from margin to margin and that don’t require hidden meanings embedded in them.

Words are meaning and

meaning comes from words crafted carefully and I admit

here and now

that I have not taken as much care as I possibly could have

this month long

this long month

I am still proud to have taken part and exercised my brain, my heart, my creative spirit

and maybe added a layer of depth to my writing

while sharing in the stanzas of others’ efforts.

One more day of prowetress, proetgress to go

Dream on!

prowess … not quite but yes, perhaps a modicum of progress

has been made by this fledgling poet

Save the best for last?

We shall see tomorrow.

Grim Fairy Tail

Day 28 NaPoWriMo (National Poetry Writing Month)

Rubber boots boots boots

And I’m jumping in the puddles like a

Duck duck GOOSE!

Canada geese have returned

Shake your tail feathers girls, gaggle at the gander

I listen to them squabble late at night as the

Fox searches round, sniffs the ground, sneaks like a hound

Looking for its dinner

Sly guy in Mother Nature’s hen house

There will be a feast tonight

Goosey goosey gander

Where shall I wander?

In my rubber boots boot boots

I will jump in the puddles like a

Duck duck GOOSE on the loose!

All Roads Lead You Home

Ah geez, I’m two days behind on National Poetry Writing Month (NaPoWriMo) Three more days. Can I do it? Yes! I owe four poems.

Let’s see what I can come up with this day. (Day 26 retroactively)

Reach a hand back in time and tell a story

Your story.

Think of the magnitude of decisions made by your ancestors that culminated in

Who you are today.

Do any of us ever really make mistakes?

One day, a Life will look back and say

Thank you.

All roads lead you Home.

Day 27 NaPoWriMo

One potato

New potato

Baked potato

I burned it hard and threw it out the door

No I didn’t.

I ate my

One potato

Tough with shoe leather skin

A carrot

five grape tomatoes

I wish I had some gin.

One potato

New potato

My supper was bereft

Thank goodness for dessert

There’s stale chocolate cake left.

Let’s Talk Poverty

Poverty is relative
In the Western world
Even on the street you’ve more rights
Than many round the world
Who have roofs over their heads.

Poverty is not the same as living simply
It’s simply about not having options or choices or the ability to improve one’s standing.

Poverty is crushing
Kills the body, mind and spirit
Poverty steals hope and
Leaves apathy and despair in its wake
Poverty kidnaps childhood.

If those of us who have
Lived with less
Less stuff
Less entitlement
Could we change the tide of poverty and
All rise up together?

I can dream of that equality
I can strive to achieve it
Because I am a Have
Not a Have Not
I have the luxury of considering solutions because
There is a roof over my head
Food in my belly
And education and healthcare when I want or need it.

Cranky Pants Cat

I’m on a cat theme again today. My black cat took a running charge at my pup this morning as I was trying to leave for work and it was like telling two arguing children to settle down and cut it out because the pup hadn’t done anything wrong (this time) … and it was silly so I wrote this for Day 24 NaPoWriMo (Naitonal Poetry Writing Month)

Cranky pants cat

Spat at me

Hissed at the pup

And scratched her knee.

Cranky pants cat

Flattened his ears

Growled at the dog

And swatted her rear.

Cranky pants cat

Full of P & V today

Settle down, relax

True just wants to play.

Kitty cat Jack

What’s the ruffle in your fur?

Let me scratch your chin

let me hear your purr.

Kitty cat brown cat

Kitty cat black cat

Kitty cat brown cat

snoozes like your grandpa.

Kitty cat black cat

purring like a tank.

Kitty cat brown cat

purring like a jet plane.

Kitty cat black cat Kitty cat brown cat

Purring me to sleep, sweet sleep

On my lap.

5 AM Wake Up Call

Poop-dee-dooped tonight.

Rising with the sun is officially at 5 a.m.

When the horizon is broached by the golen globe

cats begin to prowl and yowl for food

pup begins to pace ready to play and

I begin to roll to and fro.

Why fight it?

Up for a homemade latte and game of kick ball.

If only the snow would go

This early morning celebration in the backyard in PJs and toque with steaming coffee mug in hand, rubber boots on feet

Is definitely a sign of Spring.
